NHRCK Published its 2005 Annual Report

National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) published its 2005 annual report. According to the National Human Rights Commission Act, Clause 1 of Article 29, the annual report should be submitted to the Chairperson of Republic of Korea and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. The annual report contains wide scope activities of the Commission from January 1 to December 31, 2005.

The report consists of 3 sections. Section 1 is for the introduction of the book, summarizing 2005 activities and explaining their meanings. In Section 2, the Commission’s main activities are presented such as: the Commission’s activities to improve various laws, measures, policies, and conventions; the administration of the human rights counselings and petitions; the investigation of human rights violations and discriminations and relief activities about the cases; human rights education and public awareness campaigns; details about relationship and cooperative activity with local and international human rights organizations. Section 3 includes special activities which explain the recommendation for the ‘National Action Plans for the Promotion and Protection of Human right’, the ‘Anti-Discrimination Law’, as well as details about the Commission’s ‘action plans for the promotion of human rights’ and secretariat organization reformation.

The readability of 2005 annual report is enhanced by illustrations of the news and photographs about the Commission’s activities, in addition to explanations of statistics, distributions and trends using various graphs and charts. The annual report is distributed to related organizations and groups. It is also available online at www.humanrights.go.kr.
