Human Rights Films and Animations Made by NHRCK Commended at International Film Festivals

Human rights films and animations made by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) were well-received at international film festivals. The human rights films entitled “Six Different Views” and “Five Different Views” were invited and played at the 4th Paris Cinema held from June 27 to July 11, 2006. The Paris Cinema, which is one of the most popular summer events of Paris, was started by Bertrand Delanoe, Mayor of Paris in 2003 and Costa Gavras is chairman of the executive committee. More than 450 films were shown at 20 theaters throughout Paris during the festival.

The human rights animation entitled “All Sorts of Unusual Stories” was invited and playing at the Melbourne International Film Festival scheduled to be held from July 26 to August 13, 2006. The Melbourne International Film Festival is one of the largest and oldest film festivals, which draws attention of audiences as one of the most important cultural events in Australia. Also, the festival shows the most remarkable recent Asian movies.

In addition, the human rights animation entitled “All Sorts of Unusual Stories” was well-reviewed internationally by receiving an award at “Cartoons on the Bay” held in Rome, Italy. NHRCK will continue to strive to make and distribute such high-quality human rights films and animations because they are an excellent media for human rights education to facilitate the understanding of the human rights issues by citizens.
