NHRCK's Third Human Rights Movie Project to Be Put On Screen

" If You Were Me III" , a human rights movie planned and produced by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK), was released on November 23. The movie (running time: 106 minutes) aims to shed light on discrimination against vulnerable social groups and minority groups, make the culture receptive to human rights promotion, and enhance human rights sensitivity.

Following " If You Were Me" in 2002 (directed by Sun-rye Im, Jae-eun Chung, Gyun-dong Yeo, Jin-pyo Park, Gwang-su Park, and Chan-wook Park) and " If You Were Me II" in 2004 (directed by Gyung-hee Park, Seung-wan Ryu, Ji-woo Chung, Jin Jang, and Dong-won Kim), " If You Were Me III" directed by Yoon-chul Chung, Hyun-pil Kim, Dong-seok Roh, Mi-yeon Lee, Gok Kim/Seon Kim, and Gi-seon Hong is an omnibus feature film focusing on migrant workers, women, juveniles, people with different skin color, sexual minorities and irregular workers.

Ahead of screening of the movie at theatres, the NHRCK held a special preview for political figures and government officials including members of the National Assembly" s Committee on Gender Equality and Family and the Commission on Youth Protection, human rights activists safeguarding the human rights of vulnerable social groups and minority groups including KKiri Kkiri (Lesbian Counseling Center in South Korea), MW TV (a broadcasting station for alien migrant workers) and Asia Human Rights Cultural Coalition, and candidates for the Korean Human Rights Awards.

" If You Were Me III" was well received and drew great applaud from the audience when it was screened during this year" s Jeonju International Film Festival and Pusan International Film Festival. It is receiving increasing interest from the domestic film world, as evidenced by the fact that it was invited, as the opening movie, to the 2006 Festival Franco-Coreen du Film (French-Korean Film Festival) to be held in France.
