Position Paper and Advocacy Tool for the Rights of Older Persons adopted at GANHRI Annual Meeting 


Song Doo-hwan, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, led the adoption of the Position Paper and Advocacy Tool on the Rights of Older Persons.


Chairperson Song attended the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 6-8, 2024, and led the adoption of a position paper and advocacy tool on the rights of older persons.


At the meeting,  Chair Song led the launch of the GANHRI Position Paper and Advocacy Tool on the Rights of Older Persons, which is the first guideline on the role of national human rights institutions in protecting and promoting the human rights of older persons.  The paper presented strategies such as active advocacy for national human rights institutions to work on the drafting of the UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons, and received support from human rights organizations from Australia, Denmark, Morocco and other countries during the discussion. 


In addition, the Korean National Human Rights Commission participated in discussions on GANHRI's priority issues as a member of the Bureau during the Annual Meeting, and also participated in discussions on human rights areas such as torture and violence prevention, refugees and stateless persons, and business and human rights.
