NHRCK launched Innovation Committee

o National Human Rights Commission of Korea launched an Innovation Committee composed of 12 external members and 3 internal members.

o The Committee will act as an advisory body for the next three months, reviewing the past of NHRCK, identifying future tasks and presenting a blue print for NHRCK as an exclusive body to deal with human rights related issues.

o NHRCK already composed and operated a Task Force Team on Innovation composed of its staff in June. However, the TF team suggested creation of an Innovation Committee composed of external experts in its final report. NHRCK expects the Committee to present to measures to bring about innovation

o It is especially meaningful that the Committee is created upon the resolution of the Plenary Committee pursuant to Article 15 of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea. The Committee, with legal legitimacy, is expected to further strengthen the effect of the plan for innovation.

o Chairperson Lee Sung-ho stated at the launching ceremony of the Committee that he humbly recognizes all the critics against NHRCK, and that there is a need for NHRCK to re-born with future-oriented innovation. He added that he has great expectation for the Committee.

o NHRCK will accept recommendation of the Committee to the maximum extent and actively implement them, so that the launching of the Committee serves as a starting point in NHRCK’s journey for better future.
