NHRCK published 'NHRCK: 15 Years of History'

National Human Rights Commission of Korea, in commemoration of 15th anniversary of its establishment, published a book titled ‘NHRCK: 15 Years of History’.

The 420 page-long book is largely divided into two parts. Part 1 covers overview of the Commission including process of establishment, organization and operation of NHRCK, 3 year plan for promotion of human rights, and human rights counselling services. Part 2 contains major activities of NHRCK including institutionalization of human rights, education and promotion activities, and cooperation with human rights organizations and institutions both at home and abroad. In particular, 170 major recommendations of the commission which believed to contribute to promotion of human rights in Korean society are included. As annex, a chronological table of 15 years history of commission, information on chairpersons and commissioners and pictures are included.

Publication of the book which reviews problems and their resolutions related to human rights is expected to provide an opportunity to seek future human rights issues and prospects.

Chairperson Lee Sungho of NHRCK stated that he hopes that publication of the book helps people to broaden their understanding on human rights and roles of NHRCK and to establish desirable role of NHRIs.
