The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) thanks everyone who expressed interest in and supported our work all throughout 2007.
Thanks to your support, the Commission accomplished much over the last year.
Here are some of the major accomplishments from 2007:
- The long-awaited passage of the ‘Anti-Discrimination against and Remedies for Persons with Disabilities Act’ in the National Assembly;
- Our recommendation to improve unconstitutional portions of the Anti-Discrimination Act to better realize the promises made within the act;
- The opening of the Commission’s third regional office in Daegu-city;
- Chairperson Ahn’s election as Vice-President of the ICC;
- The start of our renewed collaborations with Buddhist Orders, Protestant and Catholic Churches and other religious organizations for human rights;
- Our consistent establishment of Memorandums of Agreement (MOUs) with Korean universities to secure the future of human rights education;
- The drafting of a national human rights education bill; and
- Our active continuation of all efforts to abolish the death penalty in Korea.
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea will continue to work even harder in 2008 to serve all residents in Korea and Korean nationals abroad. Thank you.
