NHRCK Signs Memorandum of Understanding with the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia


–  Vows to share experiences in implementing and institutionalizing international human rights standards and uphold the rights of nationals residing in each other’s countries –


□ On June 20, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (Chairperson Ahn Chang-ho, hereinafter “NHRCK”) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia (hereinafter "NHRCM".


□ Chairperson Ahn Chang-ho of NHRCK and Chief Commissioner Dugar Sunjid of NHRCM agreed to cooperate in the following areas:

△ sharing experiences related to the implementation and institutionalization of international human rights standards;

△ exchanging policy approaches for the protection of vulnerable groups;

△ cooperating on human rights education and capacity-building; and

△ consulting on the protection of each other’s nationals within their respective jurisdictions.

To facilitate effective implementation of the MOU, the two Commissions also agreed to designate liaison officers.


□ Mongolia is one of the most active countries in Asia in terms of ratifying international human rights treaties and incorporating them into its domestic legal framework. Furthermore, the NHRCM is, apart from NHRCK, the only accredited national human rights institution in East Asia, making it a key partner in strengthening regional human rights network.


□ Through this MOU, NHRCK seeks to deepen its cooperation with the NHRCM and to play a more proactive role in the protection and promotion of human rights in the international community.
