The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK), in collaboration with the ASEM Global Ageing Center and the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Korea, held the 4th ASEM Forum on the Rights of Older Persons on July 16 2024.
This year’s forum, held on the theme “The Human Rights of Older Persons: Present and Future,” consists of four sessions. The first two sessions addressed the human rights challenges faced by older persons in five southeast Asian countries, specifically Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand, and the efforts made by civil society groups to promote the rights of older persons in these countries.
This was followed by the third session, which was dedicated to the activities undertaken by the NHRCK, ASEM Global Ageing Center and civil society groups in relation to the rights of older persons. The final session provided an opportunity for participants to present recommendations for the advancement of the rights of older persons in the five Southeast Asian countries.
The NHRCK hosts an annual forum on the rights of older persons, jointly with the ASEM Global Ageing Center and the EU Delegation to the Republic of Korea, with a view to facilitating discussion on this citical topic in a rapidly aging world.
