National Human Rights Commission of the Korea Attends APF Biennial Conference

On 21 September, the National Human Rights Commission of the Republic of Korea participated in the APF Biennial Conference commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 30th anniversary of the Paris Principles. During the conference, participants shared the efforts and achievements of national human rights institutions in the region in promoting and protecting human rights.

Participants noted that human rights issues related to climate change are among the most pressing in the region and expressed concern that vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, women, persons with disabilities and low-income groups face greater challenges.

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea also presented the Commission's activities in relation to the climate crisis and suggested ways in which national human rights organisations could work together at the regional level to address it, such as monitoring human rights violations and issuing joint position papers.

The Delhi Declaration, issued as an outcome of the conference, captured the commitment of national human rights institutions to promote human rights in the region, including support for the establishment of new national human rights institutions, the role of national human rights institutions in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and joint efforts to address climate change and human rights issues.
